West Africa in a few words
Mali and Ivory Coast belong to West Africa, i.e. the region covering the entire western part of sub-Saharan Africa. It includes approximately the coastal countries north of the Gulf of Guinea to the Senegal River, the countries covered by the Niger River Basin and the Sahelian hinterland countries.
West Africa covers an area of 6,140,000 km², or about one fifth of the African continent. It has a population of about 300 million.
Climate
West Africa has an intertropical climate, characterized by constant heat and exceptional sunshine. It includes two seasons: the October to June dry season and the July to September rainy season.
